William Edward "Bill" Albright - Counselor

Passed away August 31, 2007 in Vallejo, CA.  Bill took the boy out of Nebraska, but, proudly, never took the Nebraska out of the boy.  To Helen and Bill Albright he was born in Falls City, NE, an Aquarian, on February 11, 1931.

He was raised well and instilled with the belief that his life should be better than theirs.  Certainly it covered more of the earth than Fall City and Nebraska.  After playing too much and not enough in sports, learning the basics at Falls City High School, he began working on the Missoury Pacific Railroad, concluding there must be a better way to live.  Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1951 and served abroard at Clark Air Force Base, the Philipine Islands, and in California.

Bill loved to attend school and learn.  He graduated from Peru State College, was a W.R. Col Fellow in American Studies at the University of Wyoming, became a teacher in California, and earned a Master's Degree from Oregon State.  He taught kids for 32 years at Herbert Slater Junior High and Piner High School in Santa Rosa.  His interest in the profession led him to be President of the SRTA twice and active in community affairs.

Bill loved to officiate sports.  For 30 years he never missed a call.  He left teaching in 1990 seeking another era of life, and moved to Calistoga.  He worked for Tom Pelter's Wine Stop for many years, published a book of cowboy poetry at 74 years of age, wrote a regular Calistoga Tribune column, and daily wrote something - compositions filled his room.  This guy read, fished, and thought.

He loved his children; Barbara, Bill, Craig, Arden, Kristin; wife Joan; and life's contacts with thousands of people, including seven grandchildren.  Nebraska returned each football season with Husker Mania and his blood ran red, proving without a doubt, Nebraska dwelt in this boy till the last play of his game of life.
