Tony R. Watson

Anthony Roy Watson, 70, known as Tony to his family and friends, went home to be with the Lord on January 13, 2022. Tony was born on August 15th, 1951, in San Francisco, CA to Gloria and Rennie Watson (both have preceded him in death).

Tony's favorite childhood home was a complex called Woodlake, in San Mateo, where he lived with his father and stepmother (Katherine Watson). It was there that he and his best friend, Ken Augustson, would spend their afternoons working out and honing their billiard skills. They attended San Mateo High School and spent countless hours playing pool, which proved to pay off in the form of trophies. Tony, Shelley and Ken spent the summers enjoying the property’s many amenities - often with their cousins Pam and Steve. In 1972 Tony and Ken became brothers in-law when Ken married Shelley. Tony & Ken remained friends to the very end. Tony graduated from Piner High School in Santa Rosa, where he enjoyed running Track and participating in school plays.

Tony had dedicated his life to Christ before he fell in love, and married, Gloria Alvarec. They met at church and he was so excited that he and Gloria shared the same passion for Christ, and that they "prayed the same - with all their might". Tony and Gloria were married for almost 9 years at the time of his passing. His favorite Scripture was John 3:16 (also known as the Bible in a nutshell!) "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Tony made it his mission to share the good news of salvation to all.

While he was never one to brag, he would absolutely beam at his successes. Tony was tall and handsome, funny, charming and loved to laugh! He did not want to languish and suffer in his old age, and he did not want to burden his loved ones. He had often expressed that he wanted to pass like his grandpa George, who suffered a heart attack at age 60 while picking tomatoes. Mission accomplished!

Tony is survived by his three younger sisters, Shelley (Tony) Marseguerra, Thelma (Dale) Westrom, whom he shared a birthday with 6 years apart, and his baby sister Elizabeth Koetke. He is also survived by his daughter Jennifer Howard, who gave him 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, his son Justin Watson, five nieces, three nephews, four grand nieces, two grand nephews, his stepmother, two cousins and his beloved church family at Crossing the Jordan Church.

We know he is beaming, and know he is home, but we will miss him terribly. He was buried on January 25th at 2:00. There will be a celebration of his life at Applegate Christian Fellowship at noon on Tuesday, February 1, 2022.
