James Eliot, Teacher

 January 25, 1927 - December 14, 2022

James (Jim) Orinn Eliot, 95, of Santa Rosa, passed away on December 14, 2022. Born in Woodland, California, Jim leaves behind Florie, his wife of 68 years, and his three sons Jim, David and Steven. He was loved by his three daughters-in-law, six grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

Jim graduated from Woodland High School and served his country at the end of World War II. Upon leaving the military he received a college degree from San Jose State University and then a master's degree in physical education from Stanford University. It was in the school's library that he met the love of his life.

Jim and Florie married and lived in Southern California to start his career as a teacher. After a few short years they moved to Santa Rosa to continue teaching and start their family. He was a long time teacher of physical education, science and biology at Slater Middle School and Piner High School.

Always at home in the outdoors, Jim enjoyed backpacking and snow skiing in the Sierras, day hikes in Montana, walks at Spring Lake, and any other activity that allowed him to be with family and friends. Although Santa Rosa was home base, Jim's heart was always in the Big Sky County of Montana, where he got a second master's degree in biology from the University of Montana.

Jim's smile and charm was infectious to everyone he met. He was a truly great man who will be forever remembered and loved by his family and friends. A private memorial will be held on April 29, 2023. Friends are welcome to contact any family member for details.
