Marie Ann Floy Spedick - Dean of Girls

Passed away at home, after a short illness, surrounded by her loving family, April 4, 2012. Marie was 92 years old, born in Hospers, IA on December 16, 1919. Marie is survived by her husband of 67 years, Paul C. Spedick, her children: Paul Jr., Michael (Peggy), Peggy Patrick (Barry), and Susie Mariam, grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Marie was proud of the fact that she was the only child in her family to leave the farm and attend college. She received her BA from St. Benedict's College in St. Cloud, MN and a MA from San Francisco State University. She moved to California when she joined the WAVES in World War II, then met and married Paul. They moved from San Francisco to Sebastopol in 1951.

Marie was down-to-earth and called it as she saw it. She loved and protected her family fiercely and was generous to a fault. Marie taught at Montgomery High School when it opened and retired from Piner High School as Dean of Girls in 1982. She was an avid golfer, having played in many tournaments. She also loved to play bridge and one of her last questions to her daughter was, "Will you hurry up and bid?"

The family is indebted to the Sutter Hospice team, particularly Judy and Theresa, who gave such loving and constant care to Marie.
