Kathy Trenchard - Teacher


"Mrs. Kathy Trenchard, a much loved French and Spanish teacher, passed away from cancer on April 15, 2016.  Kathy was the last to retire of the original group of teachers hired in 1966 when Piner first opened under the leadership of principal Mr. Al Biella and vice-principal Mr. Bob Zeni."

Una Kathleen "Kathy" TRENCHARD (1941 - 2016)
Born to Jack and Clara Reese in Tacoma, WA on March 29, 1941 and passed away on April 15, 2016. She was 75 years old. Kathy went to school in Tacoma and got a teaching degree at Washington State University, specializing in French and Spanish. She also studied in France at the University of Grenoble. Her first teaching job was in Olympia, WA. She then moved to San Francisco where she worked for Wells Fargo Bank, then on to Sausalito where she met her husband Robert "Bob" Trenchard. They were married in 1966. Their 50th wedding anniversary was coming up on August 15, 2016. She also became the mother of his son, Robert Ray "Bobby" Trenchard, III. She became one of the first faculty members at the new Piner High School, where she taught Spanish and French for 38 years. She was earned the honor of teacher of the year and retired as the last original teacher at Piner. Teaching was her true passion and an ongoing source of meaning and purpose in her life. After she retired, she was very active with the Retired Teachers Association, serving on the Board of Directors. Kathy had a great enthusiasm for living and learning and a natural curiosity, inspiring the same in others. These qualities contributed to her love for travel and her magnetic personality. She loved dogs and everything French. She did yoga three times a week and made many friendships through yoga. Kathy was pre-deceased by her son, Bobby; parents, Jack and Clara Reese; and brother, Al Reese. She is survived by her husband, Bob; granddaughter, Camille Torres, and Camille's husband, Jacob Kaminker; and her niece and nephew, Chris and Jyll Reese. She is remembered by her cousins, Jack and Faye Reese; in-laws, Gary Trenchard and Sara Steck and Jay and Janet Trenchard; close friends, Bill and Andy Yeardley; Vangie Pullins, the widow of her son, Bobby; her good friend and walking buddy, Ruth Springer; friend, Joline Walsh, and Joline's children, Willy and Lisa; friend and neighbor, Nancy Ferguson; her monthly breakfast club; and many other nieces and nephews. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Petaluma Valley Hospital, Dr. Stanton and the staff at Petaluma Oncology for their compassionate care. A celebration of Kathy's life will be held on Thursday, May 12, 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m., at the Rooster Run Golf Course Event Center, 2301 E Washington St, Petaluma. Refreshments will be served. Casual attire. Please bring fond memories and funny stories to share. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Petaluma Animal Services Foundation.
